North Cowichan is creating guidelines and a strategy that will guide pickleball court development in the future. These guidelines will also help inform options to address noise issues at the courts at Andy Hutchins Park (Maple Bay).


On May 6, 2026 Council received the report with recommendations for noise mitigation options at Andy Hutchins Park (Maple Bay) along with the What We Heard summary that outlines feedback received through public input.

Council directed the hours of play at the courts at Andy Hutchins Park be 9am to 5pm, seven days a week, and that a report on alternative locations for pickleball come back to Council in the fall as part of the 2027 budget process. Clear signage outlining the hours, expectations for players (including considerations for nearby residents), and where nearby courts are located will be installed in the coming weeks.


On January 21, 2026, Council received a report outlining the nature of the concerns raised at Andy Hutchins Park.

The BC Recreation an Parks Association published guidelines to support noise considerations as part of the development of pickleball courts.
